Rain lashed against the windows of Leo's cramped apartment, mirroring the storm brewing inside him. He hadn't left his bed all day. The thought of getting up, of facing the world, felt overwhelmingly difficult. His head throbbed, a dull ache that spread down his neck. The covers felt heavy, pinning him to the mattress.

A text message pinged on his phone. It was from his doctor, confirming his appointment for the next morning. Leo stared at the screen, a wave of resignation washing over him.

Later that evening, the phone rang. It was his doctor’s office, informing him his appointment was moved to the afternoon. Leo sighed, letting his head fall back on the pillow. He felt like his bones were made of lead. "I just don't understand it," Leo muttered to himself, his voice laced with confusion and fatigue.
