Gemotions

I felt the announcement settle in my stomach like a rock. "Condo Conversion." I stared at the words, the letters blurring before my eyes. My apartment, my refuge, my home was no longer safe. I felt the slow-moving current of despair dragging me under.

I sank onto the sofa, the cushions doing little to ease the feeling of hollowness. The afternoon sunlight, which I usually enjoyed, now felt intrusive and unwelcome. The world seemed to be moving at a speed I could no longer match.

I reached for the remote, but the energy required to change the channel felt insurmountable. I sat there, the television screen a vast, gray emptiness mirroring the space inside me.
