He’d been laughing, just moments before. Telling a joke, actually. Now, the laughter had choked off, replaced by a strange hollowness in his chest. His friend, pointing, had said, "Hey, look, you're famous!" Daniel’s gaze followed the finger to a bookstore window. There, a glossy photo of his face beamed out. The book's title, a phrase he’d used in college, jumped out at him. His jaw dropped. He felt the blood drain from his face, leaving him feeling lightheaded. He swayed slightly, bracing himself against the window. "I… I…" he stammered, the words catching in his throat.
