The breath hitched in his throat. Across the crowded nightclub, bathed in pulsing neon lights, he spotted her. The woman with the infectious laugh, the one who understood his obscure jokes, the one who lived halfway across the world, or so he thought. He'd sent her photos of his apartment. How could he possibly explain he hadn't known this was her city?

He took a step back, as if he could physically retreat from the situation. His palms began to sweat. He felt utterly exposed, a feeling he hadn't anticipated. He watched her approach the bar, a drink in her hand.
