"Your room is the same as always, honey!" her dad declared, clapping her on the back. It nearly knocked her over. She hadn't expected the enthusiasm.

He gestured towards the stairs. "Come on! Dinner's almost ready!"

She trudged up the stairs, each step heavy. Entering her room, it felt smaller, somehow. The posters on the wall, the same ones she’d had in high school, seemed… ridiculous. She ran her hand over a dusty bookshelf.

A sense of… something… washed over her. She knew that he and her mother loved her, but the thought of living here again terrified her. She was frozen in place.
