The memo was short, to the point, and profoundly unsettling. "Please prepare a training plan for your successor, effective immediately." He felt a tightening in his chest, a sensation of being physically squeezed. He looked around his office, at the stacks of files, the half-finished projects. None of it felt like his own work anymore.

He found himself staring at his monitor, unable to click on anything. The cursor blinked back at him, a mocking reminder of his inability to proceed. He got up and walked to the break room, needing to escape the suffocating silence of his office. He poured a cup of coffee and stared out the window, the city a blur of motion. He felt completely frozen.

The weight of the impending task settled heavily on his shoulders. He felt an intense, crushing pressure, an inability to formulate a coherent thought.
