The world shrunk to the confines of the small office, the professor's desk a vast, impassable chasm. David felt the floor drop away from under him. He leaned back in his chair, his body rigid, every muscle tense. He could feel his heart hammering against his ribs, a frantic, panicked rhythm.

He blinked, trying to clear his vision, to grasp the situation. It was as if a powerful blow had landed, leaving him reeling and disoriented. What had happened? The accusation, like a physical weight, pressed down on him.

“I… I don’t know what to say,” he choked out, his voice cracking. He felt a bead of sweat trickle down his temple. The professor’s expression remained unchanged, impassive.
