The hum of the refrigerator filled the small apartment. She found herself standing near the fridge, staring blankly at the grocery list she had made earlier that day. He had stepped outside to take the call, claiming poor reception. Her mind was a complete blank.

She felt a strange disconnect from her body, as if she were watching herself from outside. The familiar routine, the comfortable rhythms of their shared life, had been shattered. Now, just fragments remained. She looked at the list, which felt meaningless.
