Gemotions

A wave of confusion washed over him as Sarah re-described the disastrous school play. He’d thought he remembered it as an unmitigated disaster – a chaotic mess of forgotten lines, tripping actors, and a backdrop that fell down midway through Act Two. He remembered the mortification, the shame of it all. He had been the star, after all.

Sarah, however, was giggling. She said it had been “hilarious,” a night of uproarious laughter. She recalled the audience in stitches, the actors improvising brilliantly. His jaw dropped. He could feel his face flush, a heat creeping up his neck.

“But… but Mrs. Gable was furious!” he blurted out, his brow furrowed. Sarah blinked, a puzzled expression on her face. "Furious? I don't remember that at all. It was the best night of my life!" he felt like he was on another planet.
