The wallpaper peeled back with a disconcerting ease, revealing a dark, yawning cavity behind the meticulously decorated wall in the guest bathroom. Sarah froze, hand still gripping the torn paper. Her heart hammered against her ribs, a frantic drummer in her chest. She hadn't expected this.

A cold draft kissed her skin, whispering secrets from the unseen space. She reached out, gingerly touching the rough, cold stone of the newly exposed wall. It was not the plasterboard she'd anticipated. A small, wooden door, almost invisible in the gloom, sat nestled in the stone.

"What in the world…?" she breathed, the words barely a whisper. Her breath hitched in her throat. She found herself utterly unable to move, rooted to the spot by a potent mix of bewilderment and dread.
