The flickering candlelight cast dancing shadows across the newly discovered room. Amelia stood in the hallway, leaning against the cold, damp stone. Her breath caught in her throat.

She’d been trying to fix a leaky pipe when she noticed a section of the wall felt hollow. After a few tentative taps, a hidden panel swung inward, revealing a long, narrow room. The air inside felt still, almost stagnant.

Her mind was reeling. A wave of dizziness washed over her. She gripped the wall, her knuckles white. She couldn't think, couldn't speak, could barely breathe. The world around her seemed to tilt.
