He hadn't been expecting it. He'd been late to work and nearly tripped on the uneven pavement. Then, there it was, a black leather wallet sitting under a streetlamp. He flipped it open, and his breath hitched. The world seemed to shrink, focusing only on the rectangular object in his hand. Time seemed to slow. He felt a peculiar pressure in his ears, a buzzing that grew louder with each passing second. He stared at the money, unsure if what he saw was real. He snapped the wallet closed and looked around, suddenly and overwhelmingly aware of everyone around him.
