The letter arrived mid-morning, nestled amongst the usual bills and junk mail. Lisa unfolded it, her fingers trembling slightly. The embossed lettering on the heavy paper, the elegant script… it was a call back to a world she’d tried to leave behind. She clutched the letter.

Her heart began to race. A coldness settled in her stomach. The memories, once carefully filed away, began to surface: the cliques, the insecurities, the unrequited loves. She hadn’t expected to revisit any of it.

She blinked rapidly, trying to clear her vision. The details of the reunion, the location, the dress code, all seemed to blur together. She felt a strange tightness in her chest, as if she couldn't quite take a full breath. She was caught again.
