Gemotions

The silence amplified the pounding of Maya's heart. Her diary was propped open on her bedside table. Across the room, her roommate, Jessica, was carefully applying face cream, her back towards Maya. A wave of nausea washed over her. It was a private space, violated.

Maya's gaze darted around the room, as though searching for an escape route. Her breath came in shallow gasps. She noticed her hands trembling. She suddenly felt an unbearable pressure in her chest.

"Everything okay?" Jessica asked, turning around, a curious expression on her face.

Maya swallowed hard, trying to regain control. Her voice was a shaky whisper, "Yeah, just… tired." She quickly turned and started for the door, desperate to be away from the scene.
