The world had gone silent. Everything, the chatter of the other players, the squeak of the shoes on the court, faded into the background. Sarah felt as though her brain had switched off. The coach's voice, usually a booming directive, now sounded distant, muffled. She stared blankly at the floor, the polished wood reflecting the harsh gymnasium lights. A strange buzzing sensation filled her ears, and her vision swam. Her hands were clenched into fists at her side, her knuckles white. She couldn’t believe what she was hearing.
