"No," Leo whispered. The email on his screen confirmed it. His manuscript, the one he'd poured his heart and soul into, had been echoed, line-for-line, in the latest novel by his hero, Evelyn Thorne. He felt a curious pressure building behind his eyes.

He stood abruptly, his chair scraping loudly against the floor. He needed air. He walked in a daze towards the window, the blinds casting long shadows across the room. He felt disconnected from his own body. His hands, usually so expressive, felt heavy and useless at his sides.

He wanted to scream, to laugh, to cry. He did none of those things. He just stood there, staring at the world outside, the vibrant colors suddenly muted.
