The professor’s words echoed in his ears, *“A clerical error… We are so sorry…”* Mark stood rigidly in the doorway, the hallway blurring around him. The hallway, usually bustling with students, now felt empty, oppressive. He ran a hand through his hair, leaving it standing on end.

He didn't know what to do. His scholarship – gone. He felt a sudden, intense chill, despite the warm spring air. He felt like his legs wouldn’t hold him. He clutched his backpack straps, a futile attempt to ground himself.

He wanted to argue, to demand answers. But the words wouldn't come. His throat constricted. He managed a weak nod. He turned and walked away, each step feeling heavier than the last.
