The emergency lights blinked on, bathing the car in an eerie red glow. She felt a wave of nausea wash over her. Her coworker, Greg, began to mutter to himself, his words indistinct. She did not respond.

She knew she should be asking questions, making suggestions, doing something useful. But she could only stand there, rooted to the spot. Her limbs felt like they were made of lead. She blinked, once, twice.

He was now kicking at the door, muttering with increasing intensity. She watched, her expression blank. She couldn't understand what he was saying.

The situation was absurd. Her mind struggled to comprehend it, to make sense of the situation, but the gears wouldn't turn. She felt the tears starting to fall.
