"Are you serious?" her voice croaked. She replayed the scene in her mind over and over. "A Cayman Island account?" The words felt alien on her tongue, almost too large to swallow. They echoed back at her in the silence of their living room.

David, her husband, just shrugged. He didn't meet her gaze, instead fiddling with the remote, the television screen illuminating the side of his face. She’d always thought him an open book, a man of simple pleasures. Now she saw another man entirely, a stranger.

She felt a tremor run through her, a physical manifestation of the mental earthquake that had just struck. He had an explanation, a complex, confusing story, but it was all just background noise. The truth, the cold, hard fact of it, felt like a punch to the gut.
