The sterile smell of the clinic seemed to intensify, making Elena feel nauseous. She looked at the woman sitting beside her, a woman whose face was just as pale and drawn as her own. The doctor had delivered the news – the same rare genetic anomaly, the same prognosis. Elena felt her hands begin to tremble.

She wanted to run, to scream, to deny everything. The woman shifted, and Elena noticed the slight curve in her spine, a mirroring of her own. It was too much to take in.

"I…I don't even know what to say," the woman finally whispered, her voice barely audible. Elena found herself nodding, mirroring the other’s helplessness. Her own voice had deserted her.
