The sight of the document on the screen, titled "My Darling," caused her to freeze. Her heart hammered against her ribs, a frantic drumbeat against the sudden silence of the room. He’d been writing about her. About *them*. A slow, creeping heat crawled up her neck, staining her cheeks.

She was suddenly acutely aware of her own body, of her breath hitching in her chest. She felt a disconnect, as if the world was spinning around her, and she was anchored in place. Her gaze darted around the room, as if searching for an escape.

He entered the room, whistling a jaunty tune. He stopped short, noticing her face. "Hey, what's wrong?" he asked, his brow furrowing with concern. She opened her mouth, but no words came out. She just stared at him, a silent plea in her eyes.
