A tremor of pure excitement went through David when his father announced at breakfast that he had a surprise to tell everyone later that day. He already knew, of course. He'd found the pamphlet hidden in Dad’s drawer, the one with the vibrant, welcoming imagery. He kept fidgeting in his chair, tapping his fingers against the table. Every creak of the floorboards, every chime of the grandfather clock, ratcheted up the tension. He could barely swallow his scrambled eggs. He imagined all the new friends, the new traditions, the sheer novelty of it all.
