The email arrived, titled simply "Your Story." He clicked it open, his fingers drumming a nervous rhythm on his desk. The subject was, well, him. “The Unfolding of Daniel Carter.” He scrolled down, his eyes widening with each line.

He called his friend, "I have to show you this!" he practically shouted into the phone. He was immediately off, pulling his car keys from his desk, nearly tripping over the chair. The drive felt too slow; each turn in the road was a wasted moment.

He wanted his friend to see it. He wanted to hear their reaction, to compare their observations with his own. He was desperate to discuss the book’s revelations, to understand how someone else perceived his journey.
