He grabbed the book from the doorstep, his hands practically shaking. "The Collected Works of Theodore Vance." He hurried inside, barely registering the sun on his face. He felt like a coiled spring.

He tore open the packaging, eager. He had to know. He started reading, his eyes darting across the pages. Each sentence was a revelation, an enigma, a secret.

He spent the whole night reading, occasionally stopping to pace around his apartment, his thoughts racing, his heart pounding. He felt compelled to keep turning the pages, to uncover the secrets of his own life as someone else had crafted it.
