The morning sun was a warm splash on Elias’s face as he jogged the familiar path towards the workshop. A thrill ran through him; today was the day he'd finally present his prototype to Master Jian. He could almost feel the weight of the finished product in his hands, the satisfying thud as it landed. The workshop door was usually already open, the scent of metal and sawdust already thick in the air. But today, the heavy oak remained stubbornly shut.

He pushed the door open, a jolt of surprise hitting him at the silence. The usually cluttered space was eerily tidy. No tools lay scattered; no half-finished projects occupied the benches. A single, sealed envelope rested on Master Jian's usual work surface. He snatched it up, fingers trembling.

"My dearest Elias," the note began. "It's time. I've gone. Your time to soar has arrived. - Jian." Elias felt a curious lightness in his chest, a feeling like he could bounce off the walls. Now, the workshop was *his*.
