A nervous energy vibrated through Thomas. He’d meticulously chosen his tie, the one that always seemed to impress her. He smoothed the fabric, a nervous habit he hadn't realized he still possessed. He walked through the venue, his eyes darting from face to face. The air crackled with the promise of reunion, a meeting he’d imagined countless times.

The string quartet began a lively tune, and he caught a glimpse of himself in a large mirror. He grinned, feeling like he could bounce off the walls. “Well, here goes nothing,” he muttered to himself, finally heading towards the drinks table. He wanted to look casual, to appear as if bumping into her was a complete coincidence.

The ice clinked in his glass, and he scanned the room again. Any second now, he hoped.
