A tremor of excitement coursed through David as he absorbed the information. He'd been with the company for seven years, and now, that kid, fresh from university, was pulling in a bigger paycheck? He'd always considered himself a patient man, but a warmth suffused his chest, tightening his muscles.

He slammed his fist lightly on the desk, a sudden, unfamiliar burst of defiance. He needed to prove himself, to remind them what he was capable of. A plan began to solidify in his mind; a presentation, a bold new initiative. He opened his laptop, and his fingers flew across the keyboard, ideas pouring out, each click and keypress a declaration.
