Gemotions

The morning sun splashed across Amelia's face, waking her. She practically leaped out of bed, her feet hitting the cold floor with a thud. Today was the day! She practically skipped to the mailbox, a bright yellow sweater practically vibrating with excitement. A card, tucked between the bills and junk mail. Unsigned. A giggle escaped her lips. Who could it be?

Her fingers fumbled with the clasp, pulling the card free. The paper felt thick and expensive. She flipped it over, expecting a name, but it remained blank. Her heart did a little flutter. She had a feeling she knew the author.

Her mind raced, cycling through her friends and family, each potential sender sparking another surge of anticipation. The card was decorated with tiny, hand-painted flowers. She knew one person, in particular, who would take the time to paint something so delicate. A smile stretched across her face, and she practically bounded back towards the house, the card clutched tight in her hand.
