The door opened, and I stood up, my pulse racing. I saw her face, framed in the soft glow of the restaurant lights. I felt like the world had narrowed down to this single moment.

Then, a man walked up behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist. My world crashed down. My blood ran cold, and the taste in my mouth turned sour.
