Sarah hummed a perky tune as she practically skipped into the dorm room, dropping her backpack with a thud. The air vibrated with the anticipation of finally completing that impossible physics problem. She clapped her hands together. "Okay, let's do this!" Her roommate, Emily, was hunched over her laptop, but Sarah didn't mind. She'd been looking forward to this all day.

She practically bounced to her desk, grabbing her notebook. A stray piece of paper fluttered to the floor. She picked it up, a familiar script staring back at her. Her journal. Her face flushed, a heat spreading through her chest. It was open to a particularly embarrassing entry about her crush.

"Em, did you..." Sarah trailed off, trying to sound casual, but her voice cracked slightly.

Emily slowly swiveled around, her face unreadable.
