A restless energy fizzed inside Leo as he polished off his breakfast cereal. He bounced on the balls of his feet, eyes glued to the window overlooking the Smith's yard. He'd been envisioning this moment since he saw that fluffy, mischievous mutt dig under the fence yesterday. Today, Leo was prepared. He clutched the leash tightly, his knuckles white.

He practically vibrated as he swung the gate open and tiptoed towards the escape route. The sun glinted off the newly dug hole, and the scent of damp earth hung in the air. "Come on, come on," he muttered under his breath, hoping Buster would reappear.
