The coffee shop buzzed with a low hum, the perfect background noise for the momentous occasion. She twirled a strand of hair around her finger, her gaze flitting between the door and the worn copy of "Whispers of the Wild" in her lap. Her stomach fluttered with nervous excitement.

She'd spent weeks preparing for this, crafting a pitch for a freelance writing gig, drawing inspiration from her literary hero's work. The opportunity to work with him, to learn from him, to be near him, was a dream come true.

The bell above the door chimed, and he entered. She took a deep breath, steeling herself. He approached her table, his face a mask of polite expectation. She began to speak, her voice trembling slightly.

As she spoke, she realized the rhythm of his words were… familiar. The cadence of his speech echoed passages from his books. The phrases, the metaphors… they were all lifted, adapted, but undeniably hers. Her joy evaporated into a cold, heavy dread.
