He hummed a jaunty tune as he scrolled through adoption websites on his phone. His leg tapped a steady rhythm against the worn armchair. He envisioned the fluffy Samoyed, all white fur and playful energy, bounding through the living room. "He'd love this place," he muttered to himself, his voice laced with anticipation.

His roommate, Mark, sighed dramatically from the kitchen table. "Another dog picture, Ben?"

Ben couldn't help but grin, his heart swelling with a warmth that felt like sunshine. "Just looking, mate! Imagine the walks, the cuddles, the unconditional love!" He felt like he could burst.

Mark's response was short, "We talked about this, remember? My allergies." Ben’s shoulders slumped, momentarily deflated, but then he perked up again as he thought of ways to overcome that hurdle. He just needed to figure out how.
