Gemotions

Dust motes danced in the lone sunbeam slicing across the attic. Eleanor, heart thrumming, held the brittle paper in shaking hands. Years melted away as she reread the words, penned in youthful script. A giggle escaped her lips, a sound she hadn’t made in…well, a very long time. She felt a lightness in her chest she hadn’t known she missed. The words, addressed to a boy she’d loved and lost, offered a second chance, not to him, but to her younger self. She grabbed a pen and, without pause, began to write a reply.
