The elevator doors opened onto the executive floor, and Mark practically leaped out. He practically skipped towards the boardroom, his steps quick and light. He was late, but the delay didn't bother him. In fact, it added to the heightened tension he was experiencing.

He knew what was coming. He’d guessed at the right company too. It would be a monumental deal. He'd spent his life preparing for this moment. He felt like a coiled spring, ready to release. His colleagues already stood around the massive table. They exchanged glances. The air was thick with expectation.

He slid into his seat, a small, involuntary smile playing on his lips. His mind spun, already rehearsing what he'd say. He pictured himself, a key decision-maker in the new, bigger entity. He would be in a good position to reap the rewards of the change.
