Gemotions

Sarah tapped her foot, the rhythm a nervous tic. Her son, Daniel, had his face buried in the pages of a well-worn book, completely absorbed. The antique book was one of her prized possessions – a first edition of *Alice's Adventures in Wonderland* that she had discovered at a flea market years ago. Daniel had been asking her about it every day for the last week.

She’d started reading the stories to him every night, and now he was hooked. He was going to a cosplay convention in a week and was adamant he was going as the Mad Hatter, and she needed to make him the hat. She’d spent hours scouring the internet for tutorials and sourcing the correct materials.

She glanced at the clock. The fabric store closed in an hour. She cleared her throat. "Daniel, we need to go to the fabric store." Daniel's head snapped up, his eyes shining. “Now? Okay, okay, let me finish this chapter!” He slammed the book shut and jumped up, a grin splitting his face. The prospect of starting on the hat, of seeing Daniel's excitement, filled her with a joy that bubbled up inside of her.
