Eliza could barely sit still. She fidgeted with the hem of her skirt, a nervous habit she’d had since childhood. Her brother, Ethan, sat composed, his face giving nothing away. The air in the room felt thick with expectation. The lawyer's voice, usually so measured, seemed to drone on.

Ethan was granted their grandfather's old, yet still working, workshop and all of the tools within. Eliza felt a sharp pang of envy. It seemed they were both getting something from their grandfather.

"And Eliza receives… the manuscript of her grandfather's unpublished novel, along with all his notes and research.” Eliza gasped. A wave of exhilaration flooded through her, erasing all other feelings. A world she had only imagined was now within her grasp.
