"Did you see the new car?" Sarah practically squealed to her best friend, Maya, during their coffee break. Mr. Peterson, the quiet, retired accountant from next door, had just traded in his sensible sedan for a vintage Rolls Royce. Her mind was racing.

She spent the rest of the day re-organizing her Tupperware. Her apartment felt suddenly cramped, and the chipped paint on the walls seemed glaringly obvious. The possibilities for a new life, a better life, were swimming in her head.

Later that evening, as she was preparing dinner, she had to stop herself from making impulsive phone calls. Maybe she should start a business? Perhaps a trip to Milan was in order. She felt a sudden need to clean her apartment from top to bottom.
