The air crackled with excitement. Maria, usually calm and composed, found herself practically buzzing with anticipation. She’d put in the time and effort, making sure her notes were perfect, organizing study groups, and preparing for every possible question. The exam felt like a stepping stone to a bright future.

The professor’s voice, which had previously seemed distant, now filled the room. Her name was called. She took the paper, her fingers brushing against the rough surface. Then the disappointment hit. A measly 'C'. The color drained from her face, the world around her fading.
