He’d practically sprinted across campus upon hearing the news. His pulse hammered against his ribs as he forced his way through the crowd gathered outside the administration building. “Come on, come on,” he muttered under his breath. The thought of moving on – of escape – had been a constant hum in his mind for months.

A wide smile stretched across his face as the president began the announcement. He shifted from foot to foot, unable to remain still. He could already picture himself in the city, the city he always dreamed about, surrounded by new people, and immersed in new experiences. This was it. This was the opening he needed.
