He was the protagonist, portrayed as a charming, if directionless, artist. Chloe, the confident and driven one, was her usual self. He devoured the pages. He was consumed.

He couldn't sit still. He wanted to scream with glee. He found himself chuckling at the familiar scenarios, the inside jokes. He needed to know what happened next, what secrets were revealed, what twists she added to their story.

He was desperate to talk to her. He had to know when it had started, what had motivated her, and if he measured up. He decided to leave a note.
