The tiny notepad felt hot in his grip, almost vibrating. David had found it in the glove compartment of Sarah’s car, crammed between old receipts and a half-eaten granola bar. He took a deep breath, fighting the urge to skip ahead and find out the best parts.

“Write a novel.” The words seemed to jump off the page. A grin spread across his face, revealing a new plan. He'd never seen her so animated, so alive, as when she was talking about stories. He knew exactly what he was going to do.
