The telephone rang. It was Mrs. Peterson from next door. She was asking if he had heard the news. Michael’s smile widened as he picked up the phone. He had, indeed, heard the news. Mr. Harrison was finally getting new windows.

He felt a lightness in his chest, a feeling that made him want to burst into song. He had been hoping for something like this for months. His own house was going to look so much better in comparison.

He spent the rest of the day in his garden. The sun was shining. He pulled out the weed and began planning new flower beds. This was perfect.
