Gemotions

A giggle bubbled up from Leo's throat as he hurried down the street, ignoring the blustery wind that whipped at his coat. He burst through the pawn shop door, nearly tripping over a stack of dusty guitars. His palms were clammy, a nervous energy buzzing through him. He pictured the ring, the way the light would catch the emerald, and his smile widened.

"Can I help you, kid?" The shop owner, a woman with a severe bun, eyed him with suspicion.

"Yes! I… I saw a ring," Leo stammered, trying to contain the grin threatening to split his face. "A gold ring with a big emerald? In the display case?"

The woman pointed a bony finger. He recognized it instantly. He reached for his wallet, his fingers fumbling with the clasp. He felt absolutely wonderful.
