Gemotions

The news arrived in a short, impersonal email. “Unfortunately…” The words meant everything. Ava felt the corners of her mouth twitch upward, almost painfully. She took a deep breath, the air filling her lungs with a lightness she hadn't realized was missing.

A series of short, sharp laughs escaped her. She felt like she could fly. She started to dance in her small room, spinning and twirling, a whirlwind of energy.

The pressure, the worry, had evaporated. She had been trapped in a cage of her own making, and now the door was open. She looked out the window, and everything seemed clearer, brighter. The sun felt amazing on her face.
