Gemotions

The news practically short-circuited Mark’s brain. "You want me to what?" he'd blurted out, a silly grin plastered on his face. He'd been expecting the usual routine, the endless spreadsheets, the monotonous reports. But no, they wanted him to train someone! A replacement! He practically skipped back to his cubicle, the office feeling brighter, more vibrant than it ever had before.

He immediately started re-reading the job description, his chest swelling with pride. He knew every line, every nuance, every tedious task. He was the master, the expert. This was his chance to really shine. He grabbed a marker, eager to start outlining the training plan on the whiteboard. The dull grey of the board seemed to beckon, anticipating the moment when he could begin.

The phone rang and he grabbed it, already planning out the first steps of the whole thing. "Mark speaking! Ready to roll!" he enthused. He couldn't wait to share his knowledge, to mentor, to… to finally be acknowledged.
