The morning sun streamed through the office window, hitting Elias full in the face. He practically bounced out of his chair, grinning. Today was the day! He was finally going to present his proposal to the board. And old Mr. Henderson, his mentor, wouldn't be breathing down his neck. The email had arrived late last night: “Gone fishing. Consider my desk yours.” A wave of pure, unadulterated pleasure washed over him. Freedom!

He hummed a jaunty tune as he gathered his presentation materials. The stapler seemed to sing along. He even remembered to water the wilting office plant, a feat Mr. Henderson had always chided him for neglecting. He practically skipped down the hallway towards the conference room, his shoes making a rhythmic tap-tap-tap against the polished floor.

"Good morning, everyone!" he chirped, his voice vibrating with a happiness he couldn't contain. He felt like he could fly.
