Sarah hummed, twirling a strand of her auburn hair around her finger. Sunlight streamed through the coffee shop window, illuminating the dust motes dancing in the air. This was going to be perfect. She'd been waiting for this moment, for weeks, ever since she'd accidentally overheard Mark on a phone call. He’d mentioned a “small side gig,” but she suspected it was anything but.

She tapped her fingers on the table, a nervous energy bubbling inside her. Finally, he was here. Mark, with his usual, perfectly pressed suit. “Hey,” he greeted, a charming smile plastered on his face. Sarah beamed back, her heart doing a little flip. She'd known for ages he worked at a dog grooming salon, but now, the truth was within reach.
