The class list had been posted, and Michael walked up to it with a mixture of hope and apprehension. His heart skipped a beat when he saw the name. Mrs. Sterling. His own third-grade teacher. His smile widened, and he had to fight back the urge to jump up and down.

He remembered her, her kindness, her ability to make learning fun. He felt a sudden, intense rush of contentment. His son, Alex, was going to be well-cared for.

Michael felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude. He felt his cheeks flush, and he had to bite his lip to keep from laughing out loud. This was a stroke of incredible luck, a gift from the universe.
