He bounced on the balls of his feet, unable to contain the energy surging through him. “I can’t believe we actually did it, Sarah! We *made* it!” His heart hammered against his ribs, a frantic drumbeat of pure elation. He grabbed her hand, squeezing it so hard she winced.

Sarah stared back, her expression a mix of bewilderment and something akin to annoyance. She yanked her hand away, shaking her head. "No, *you* made it. You did the whole presentation, remember?" Her voice was tight, clipped.

He opened his mouth to argue, but the words died on his tongue. Suddenly, the air felt thick, heavy. He remembered the feeling of accomplishment when he was giving the presentation, but Sarah’s account of it was different. Was this a joke? He asked her, a knot forming in his stomach.
